New Year New Goals

Have you set your goals for 2012? What are your New Year’s resolutions? You might have everything planned out in your head: plans to travel, to buy a new house, to change the furniture, to lose weight, to have a baby, to go back to school, to go to the gym. The list is endless. Some may think: this year I will change my life. You start January with a lot of enthusiasm and by March you have already forgotten more than half of your ideas or plans for the New Year.

The key to putting your goals into action is to have them very clear and specific. Whenever you set a goal, write it down. It is as good as done. Many people ask me how to do it in an efficient way. So, BrilliantWoman decided to give you a very simple plan to start. There is much more to it, but here is a beginning to keep you on track with your goals in 2012.

How to put your plans into action in 2012?

The ‘plan’ is called GOAL SETTING. It’s like a business plan, but this one is personal and it involves every aspect of your life.

It all starts with the overall vision – the big picture. So, here is our basic guideline:

1.  WHAT’S YOUR DREAM?

Here is the big picture. What is it that you want in your life? Write as much as you can.

2. WHAT IS IT THAT YOU WANT FOR THE NEXT 3 YEARS IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS?

Keep in mind the big picture.

  1. Recreation
  2. Business & Career
  3. Relationship
  4. Money and Finances
  5. Health and well-being
  6. Spirituality
  7. Education

Again, write as much as you can. Be specific.

3- WHAT IS IT THAT YOU WANT FOR THE NEXT ONE YEAR IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS?

Keep in mind the big picture and the 3 years goals

  1. Recreation
  2. Business & Career
  3. Relationship
  4. Money and Finances
  5. Health and well-being
  6. Spirituality
  7. Education

Write as much as you can. Be specific.

Now that your mind is clearer about what you want in different areas, it is time to break them down even more. The idea is to make sure that what you are doing today is directed towards what you want in your life and NOT what you have settled for just because you are busy with other ‘things’.

4- WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ON THE NEXT 3 MONTHS – JANUARY TO MARCH – IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS?

Keep referring back to your big picture, the 3 years goals and the one year goals.

  1. Recreation
  2. Business & Career
  3. Relationship
  4. Money and Finances
  5. Health and well-being
  6. Spirituality
  7. Education

You will repeat the same step from APRIL to JUNE, JULY to SEPTEMBER and OCTOBER to DECEMBER.

Once your plans are written, keep them accessible. This way you will know that what you are doing TODAY is going towards what you really want and not what others may have planned for you.

If you have further questions about how to set goals, write to us.

In the meantime, HAPPY NEW YEAR! May all your wishes come true!
